Your NYC Guide to Being Outside!

As we all know, the heat in NYC during the summer can be quite unbearable.  We usually run to the nearest place with A/C, but if we do opt to spend time outside, we make sure it’s only at the best places.

Parks/By Water

Central Park: Sheeps Meadows

If you are looking to spend the day outside in a large group, this is your spot! It’s perfect for a true park party and a great spot to people watch.

Grand Banks

Ever want to go boating without the sea sickness? Well head over to Grand Banks, a stationed boat that is the perfect spot to enjoy rose & oysters! The lines can get quite long, so we advise booking a reservation in advance.

Mr. Purple

Great decor, awesome drinks, and good vibes is what the perfect rooftop needs. We love this location for day drinks, as well as the night scene (although it can get a bit crowded).

The Standard Rooftop

A New York classic, as this spot has one of the best views in the city. Not to mention, great drinks and a crepe stand.

From the same people who run Rosemary’s, this is the perfect weekend location. The decor and outside seating will make you feel like you are in Paris enjoying a nice glass of wine.

Brought to you by the owners of Carbone and Sadelle’s, this Meatpacking spot offers one of the best food/outdoor seating combo packs in the city. The trendy people in the area make for some good people watching and the coastal Italian food is quite memorable!

Montauk Hot Spots

Montauk, the most eastern spot of the Hampton’s, is about a 3 hour drive from the city (sans traffic) and is one of our favorite escapes during these hot summer months in NYC.

We love the vibe of this cute little town, with all the quaint restaurants, the sandy beach, and the laid back feel.  We’ve rounded up the best places to go for your next Montauk stay:

Places to Be Seen:

Gurney’s hosts some of the best day parties in the entire east end. People travel from Southampton and Easthampton to spend the day at this beach front resort. Expect to see top DJ’s such as Hannah Bronfman and Miike Snow on big weekends.

We like to think of this place as a summer camp for adults, as it’s set up like you’re at a camping lodge, yet hosts live music and DJ’s.

The Surf Lodge

Expect long lines at this Montauk hot-spot, even though the recent local laws have prevented this place from having live music. It’s always a fun time at the Surf Lodge.

Places to Eat:

This Manhattan staple found its place at Gurneys and is a must-try if you’re staying in Montauk. We like to describe the ambiance as “country chic” and the modern italian food lives up to the expectation. Must try: the Tuna Susci.

Navy Beach

We’re all about the outdoor seating and the french riviera vibe here. We love to come here for drinks and dinner.  Located right on the beach and has some of the best bites in Montauk!

We love this Mediterranean spot, with a casual yet chic vibe. They have something for everyone here, including amazing burrata, tuna tartare, fish, burgers, the list goes on.

Places to Sweat:

Soul Cycle Montauk

This location was by far one of the nicest Soul studios we have ever been to.  Everyone from the front desk staff to the instructors are extra friendly and energetic. The classes fill up quick, so reserve your spot in advance.

New York Pilates @ Gurneys

We love this serene little spot nestled away in Gurney’s, which they’re stationed at all summer! You can sign up through ClassPass too!

Barry’s Bootcamp Amagansett

Okay, so this spot isn’t exactly in Montauk but it’s approximately a 15 min drive. We love Barry’s and especially the Hampton’s version because it’s only 50 minutes (especially after those rose hangovers).

We recommend checking these spots out on your next trip to Montauk. Let us know in the comments if you have any other favorites!

Our Summer Beauty Secrets

Transitioning into summer means a lot of things for us at Style Lend. Not only does our fashion get an update, but also our beauty, hair + nail routines. So, we have gathered up our top beauty and hair secrets which help us get through the summer heat.

The BeautyBlender is one of the best products in the market, and truly is the key to flawless makeup. I use it to apply and blend my makeup to give it that airbrushed look. I was so tired of getting streaky foundation from brushes, and this is resolved that issue for me.

How do you get ready for summer?

I opt for a brighter look in the summer, less smokey eye and more neutral tones. The natural glow I get in the summer allows me to get away with less makeup, although I still apply my “Nars Laguna” bronzer everyday. I also get eyelash extensions in the summer, so I never have to worry about mascara smudging due to the heat. I love knowing that I always have full lashes without having to think about it.

Since Becca is a lighter foundation, it doesn’t cover every freckle which allows for a more natural summer look. It gives a glow that I haven’t found with any other product and leaves my skin with a satin finish. It blends my skin tone and gives me the perfect fresh ‘no-makeup’ look that I’m after in the summer.

How do you get ready for summer?

From spring to summer, I try to get as close to a natural make-up free look as possible. Out with the heavy foundations and dark eyeshadows for me! I tend to use solely a lighter foundation and bronzer, and at most a bold lip for a summer night out. My favorite product for this summer is Nars’ new laguna liquid bronzer. The sheer, weightless liquid is easier to blend and contour than the powder version. I’ve been using it every morning to get that just-came-from-the-beach look. If I need new products, I head to Sephora to test them out – I love how easy it is to sample new products there.

I’m so into the Bumble & Bumble Surf Foam Beach Spray these days, as it’s the perfect spray to apply right before my morning blow out. It adds volume to my hair and makes it more manageable, I mean, who doesn’t love beachy waves?

How do you get ready for summer?
I definitely try to keep my makeup routine as light as possible during the summer. Between walking around the city, waiting in those hot and sticky subway stations, and going to workout classes, I opt for minimal makeup and stick to the basics. I don’t leave my house without putting on my Chanel UV Essentiel (SPF 50) sunscreen. I’m quite fair and want to keep my skin as young and healthy as possible. I feel like a lot of people want to wear sunscreen, but skip it to avoid that greasy feel and strong scent. This sunscreen is in fact that opposite and is hands down the best. It is super light, goes on sheer, bares little scent, yet offers a ton of protection.

Finding the perfect sunblock is tough, some are too oily others dry me out. The Tart Tartguard is amazing. A non-chemical sunscreen which protect, moisturize, brighten, and re-invigorate skin.

How do you get ready for summer?

I don’t really wear a lot of makeup unless I have an occasion. So my Summer routine becomes even lighter- Concealer/highlighter, bronzer and mascara. After multiple make up artist told me to never spend money on mascara and buy  L’Oreal’s Voluminous, it’s become my favorite. For my concealer, I absolutely love the lightness of Chanel Eclat Lumiere. It’s my go-to!
